Overview

Cleary Gottlieb is a pioneer in globalizing the legal profession. We have fourteen offices in major financial centers around the world, but we operate as a single, integrated global partnership and not a U.S. firm with a network of overseas locations. The firm employs approximately 1,100 lawyers from more than fifty countries.

Since 1946, our lawyers and staff have worked across practices, industries, jurisdictions, and continents to provide clients with simple, actionable approaches to their most complex legal and business challenges, whether domestic or international. We support every client relationship with intellectual agility, commercial acumen, and a human touch.

The Learning and Development Assistant will support the Learning and Development team on all administrative aspects and contribute to the planning and development of the training curriculum at the firm to ensure attorneys are equipped with skills to excel. This role requires strong organizational skills and careful attention to detail in planning programs.

  • Liaise with other Firm departments (e.g., catering, facilities, audio/video, IT) to carefully plan and schedule pre- and post-program logistics in advance for both live in-person and online programming.
  • Support the Legal Learning and Development Manager and other team personnel and attorneys in preparing training program materials with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, and ensure that they are kept updated on the Firm’s online resources.
  • Publicize the Firm’s training resources within the New York office and other U.S. offices as needed. Collaborate with talent teams, practice groups, and training contacts in other offices for multi-office programs and events.

CLEs

  • Issue CLE credits to lawyers, maintaining a general knowledge of CLE rules as needed.
  • Manage eLearning materials on firm’s learning management system using CE Manager.
  • Publicize CLE opportunities (both internal and external) and assist in logistical planning of CLE programming upon request.
  • Maintain and track weekly arrivals and departures of lawyers with careful attention to detail, ensuring that all relevant department files are updated to reflect status and developmental needs of current associates.
  • General work and assistance on ad-hoc projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Experience in a law firm, legal industry, or other professional services environment preferred, though not required.
  • Strong project and events planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives and program timelines simultaneously.
