Overview

Assisting the Risk team globally in advising senior management, partners, legal and office staff on legal matters affecting the Firm, especially on-boarding new clients and matters in line with the Firm’s procedures with a focus on Conflicts of interest. The role includes: the production and maintenance of policies in key areas; the implementation of internal risk processes; and the provision of relevant training. Responsible for advising on day to day conflicts queries. Conducting first level analysis of reports for Conflict Check Requests relating to new business, Lateral Hires, Pitches/RFP, Publications and Trade Report Requests. Required to react to new and pressing situations and provide clear and commercial advice.

Responsibilities

  • Providing first level analysis of reports for Conflict Check Requests relating to new business for attorneys to review further, including Lateral Hires and Trade Report Requests etc..
  • Facilitating the client and matter on-boarding process, particularly by conducting risk checks on new clients and new mandates involving conflicts and confidentiality (legal and commercial), client due diligence, jurisdictional, and reputational risk analysis.
  • Undertaking research and analysis on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Assisting with maintaining databases by performing various changes, corrections, and updates on existing client and matter information.
  • A strong customer service approach and team focus with the ability to work independently.
  • Assist Risk department with special projects relating to the firm's professional responsibility, compliance, and conflicts initiatives.
  • Be available for occasional overtime during evening hours, weekends, and certain holidays as needed.
  • 1+ years working in a professional or legal office environment.

Qualifications

  • Experience of client on-boarding, ideally gained in an international law firm/professional services firm/financial institution. Good understanding of conflicts rules as well as geo-politics and related governance issues. Familiar (or ready to become familiar) with professional bar rules and other regulations applicable to the Firm’s activities.
  • Experience with IntApp Open or other conflicts management tools is a plus but not required.
  • Good understanding of corporate structures, including companies, trusts and partnerships.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to liaise with all levels of personnel in a professional manner, both oral and written, to obtain information on new clients and matters.
  • Takes time to break down issues into component parts and asks appropriate questions to ensure understanding before embarking on a task.
  • Identifies own development needs by proactively seeking feedback to improve performance; Proactively seeks opportunities to work on different types of matters to challenge existing knowledge and skills.
  • Is an enthusiastic team member, readily assisting on tasks which may be repetitive/administrative where necessary. Takes pride in team success.

The estimated base salary range for this position is $70,000 to $75,000 at the time of posting. The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of job-related factors, including skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities, geographic location, and performance. This role is non-exempt meaning that it is overtime pay eligible.
