Overview

Under the direction of the Practice Development Manager, Research and Legislative Librarian will be responsible for providing business and legal research and reference services at a global level to the firm’s attorneys and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provide reference and in-depth research on regulatory, legal and business issues, corporate records and business developments that are often confidential and time sensitive in nature.
  • Provide legislative and legal research, including tracking and collecting legislative history, reviewing legislative process and proactively tracking issues for the firm.
  • Monitor and analyze current and emerging issues, trends, and developments related to the legislative agenda and the interests of the legislature and its committees.
  • Provide training and support in research and library use techniques, with an emphasis in computer-assisted legal research to assist users in the selection and use of print and electronic research tools.
  • Participate as part of the US Research Services team by sharing information, provides experience and seasoned advice and mentoring with and to the Library and Research Services teams in order to facilitate research.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience of relevant library research experience at a law firm. Knowledge of, or experience with legislation and regulation research preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree is required. Advanced degree (MLS, MLIS) in library science, library information science or related field (preferred).
  • Broad knowledge of standard secondary research resources both in print and online. 
  • Familiarity with state and federal legislative and regulatory processes and information sources.
  • Proficient in using databases, including but not limited to, Bloomberg Law, CapitalIQ, Eikon, Factset, HeinOnline, VitalLaw, Intelligize, Lexis Advance, Westlaw, as well as other legislative, Securities & Exchange Commission and tax resources.          
  • Ability to apply source knowledge to research projects that produce complete, cost-effective results.
  • Ability to work at a fast pace with a team that handles hundreds of requests a month.
  • Communication skills required to confidently deliver and synthesize research findings to attorneys both verbally and through written summaries and analysis.
  • Detail oriented, able to work under pressure while being flexible and providing excellent customer service.
  • Evaluates resources, tools, and technologies.
  • Capable of working independently, with minimal supervision and equally well as part of a team. 
  • Experience in competitive and business intelligence research a plus. 
  • Expected to monitor emails outside of regular business hours.
  • Flexibility to work outside regular business hours, including early mornings, evenings and weekends, as needed.

*The estimated base salary range for this position is $95,000 to $100,000 at the time of posting. The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of job-related factors, including skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities, geographic location, and performance. This role is exempt meaning it is not overtime pay eligible.
