Overview

The Litigation Paralegals work and gain experience on a wide variety of matters including, but not limited to, securities and M&A litigation, sovereign litigation/arbitration, antitrust, bankruptcy, white-collar defense and investigations, employment, executive compensation, intellectual property and general commercial disputes, as well as numerous pro bono cases. These practice areas provide exposure to various federal, state, governmental and international agencies. Working closely with lawyers, the Litigation Paralegals are invaluable members of the teams, assisting with challenging, newsworthy and law-effecting matters. In addition, Cleary Gottlieb offers an excellent educational experience and provides opportunities to utilize language skills. A Litigation Paralegal will obtain transferrable skills that can be applied in law school or any organization.

Responsibilities

  • Work with partners, counsel, associates and support staff
  • Maintain case documents
  • Preparation of pleadings, filings and document productions
  • Proof-read and cite-check legal documents
  • Prepare for and attend depositions, hearings and trials
  • Perform LEXIS, Westlaw, internet and field research
  • Translate foreign language documents and serve as interpreters for clients and/or lawyers
  • Interact with clients, local counsel and our Bay Area, Washington, D.C. and international offices

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with strong academic background (minimum 3.3 GPA)
  • Interest in the field of law
  • Proactive thinker/Eagerness to learn
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Excellent time management, organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills
  • Keen attention to detail and ability to multi-task while working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Office programs
  • Must be willing to make a two-year commitment
  • Ability to be flexible with time
  • Prepared to work overtime and weekends
  • Most positions require fluent Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian or Mandarin language skills

 

The estimated base salary for this position is $60,000 at the time of posting. The actual salary offered will depend on a variety of job-related factors, including skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities, geographic location, and performance. This role is non-exempt meaning that it is overtime pay eligible.
