Overview

Provide business and legal research experience and skills that are focused on Corporate, Corporate Governance, Debt Finance, Private Equity, and Merger & Acquisition transactions. Support the related practice areas in both NY and firm-wide while participating as part of an overall NY research team that includes the library reference staff and Practice Development Specialists in other practices.

 

Practice Development Specialists share information, advice and mentoring with and to the practice attorneys, Research Services, and Knowledge Management teams in order to facilitate research, provide expertise to others and provide guidance on new Knowledge Solution initiatives from a user’s perspective. The Practice Development Specialist will also track deals and assist Business Development with deal-related information.

Responsibilities

  • Execute complex business and legal research for requests that are often confidential and time-sensitive in nature to the Corporate, Corporate Governance, Debt Finance Private Equity, and Merger & Acquisition
  • Assist attorneys, paralegals and administrative staff in all offices with research queries.
  • Locate documents and assemble compilations of publicly available disclosure by corporations for projects and due diligence purposes.
  • Provide guidance and training on specific resources, both electronic and print to both attorneys and research services members.
  • Assist with preparing articles, presentations and training materials.
  • Monitor legislation, current publications, and SEC filings both online and in print and apprise attorneys of developments in the field on a regular basis which includes Lexis Publisher topical watches for specific client matters.
  • Provide coverage for other information specialists and the library when required and collaborate on projects or research.
  • Assist with maintaining corporate files (which will include data gathering, data entry, indexing, and filing) including firm resources such as deal and subject databases, document systems, and wikis.
  • Assist Knowledge Management with product testing and assist with the successful utilization of firm resources.
  • General administrative duties

Qualifications

  • 4-year college degree, excellent academic credentials, excellent research, and writing skills.
  • Master's Degree in Library/Information Science or related law firm or corporate experience.
  • Knowledge of standard secondary research resources and corporate documents. Resources include but not limited to Bloomberg, Capital IQ, Deallawyers, Cheetah, IntelliConnect, Lexis Securities Mosaic, Practical Law, Lexis, Westlaw and Thomson products, Factset, Sharkrepellent.net, as well as other Securities & Exchange Commission and EDGAR filing resources.  
  • Ability to apply source knowledge to research projects that produce complete, cost-effective results.
  • Communication skills required to confidently deliver and explain research findings to attorneys both verbally and through written summaries and analysis.
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision and equally well as part of a team.
