    Reporting to the Director of Tax, the Tax Manager is responsible for assisting with the partnership taxation activities of the firm including: individual partner U.S. and International tax filings, entity level U.S. and International tax filings, maintenance of the tax basis fixed asset register and implementation of procedural improvement associated to these activities. Other responsibilities include approving global vendors, filing FBAR’s, estimating annual tax liabilities, coordinating firm tax audits, reviewing sales and use tax returns and various other domestic tax filings.  The position oversees a staff of 2-3 people which they are expected to train and mentor.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop an effective relationship with the Chief Financial Officer, Director of Tax and Tax Matters Partner.
    • Develop an effective relationship with individual partner external tax advisors in the preparation of their personal tax returns in the U.S. and in countries where the firm has a permanent establishment.
    • Develop an effective relationship with firm tax advisors in the U.S. and in countries where the firm has a permanent establishment.
    • Manage, develop, and mentor tax department staff on projects and contribute to formal and informal periodic reviews and feedback.
    • Coordinate the preparation of U.S. and International tax filings of the Firm (including: U.S. forms 1065, 8804 and 8805, Unincorporated Business Tax, Commercial Rent, NYS Sales and Use Tax, UK Partnership Tax Return, etc.).
    • Manage the global fixed assets register (U.S. tax basis) which includes the recording of asset acquisitions, disposals and monthly depreciation calculations. Perform a monthly reconciliation of the fixed assets register to the general ledger for each office. Ensure all assets meet the Firm’s capitalization policy and that dispositions of assets are recorded in a timely manner.
    • Research U.S. tax regulations and implications of new and existing tax laws.
    • Assist in reconciling and reviewing data on the Firm’s annual financial statements.
    • Prepare and review annual tax information packages for each partner.
    • Managing global vendor maintenance process including receipt of proper documentation (e.g. W-9’s)
    • Plan and execute special projects as required.

    Qualifications

    • Public accounting experience with partnership taxation is required.
    • Experience in a supervisory role at a law firm or public accounting firm servicing clients in the legal industry.
    • Familiarity with a partnership model including knowledge of tax basis accounting, audit and tax issues.
    • Experience in implementing procedural improvements.
    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
    • CPA license is required.
    • Experience with Aderant or Elite preferred, but not required.
    • Proficient with Excel (Vlookups, pivot tables, etc.)
