Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP seeks a 2018 summer college intern for its Pro Bono Practice. The position will reside in the firm’s New York office.

During the 10-week program, the Pro Bono Summer College Intern will be assigned to various projects within the Pro Bono Practice that will enhance the Pro Bono Summer College Intern’s training and real life work experience.


The Pro Bono Practice at Cleary Gottlieb is responsible for the management of the firm’s voluntary legal efforts of all lawyers. The Pro Bono Summer Intern’s responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Coordinating and conducting non-legal research for immigration cases;
  • Providing administrative assistance;
  • Providing translation and interpretation services; and
  • Working with the Senior Pro Bono Specialist to maintain and update communication and tracking systems.


The Pro Bono Summer Intern also will have an opportunity to learn about Cleary Gottlieb’s Pro Bono Practice and the legal profession more broadly by attending meetings with attorneys, clients, and partner organizations to gain insights into career paths in legal services for clients from underserved communities.


We strongly prefer rising college seniors with:

  • Spanish language fluency
  • Strong academic performance;
  • Excellent interpersonal, client service, and written and verbal communication skills;
  • Good judgement, excellent organization skills, and strong attention to detail;
  • The ability to multi-task and prioritize numerous responsibilities;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel; and
  • Effective team-working skills
